Lesson Topic: The People Who Shaped Me – Talking About Influences

What we’ll do: We’ll share stories about people who influenced us and helped shape who we are today—teachers, family members, friends, or even brief encounters that left a lasting mark. You’ll practice phrases like “had a big impact on me” and “thanks to this person” while hearing your classmates’ stories through a mingling activity, then introduce a story you heard to a small group.

Key Phrases:

  • had a big impact on me / influenced me
  • taught me that… / showed me how to…
  • thanks to [person], I…
  • if it weren’t for [person], I wouldn’t…
  • made me realize… / helped me understand…

What to bring: Just yourself and curiosity!

See you Friday!

Optional At-Home Activities

1. Writing Practice: Write a short paragraph (5-6 sentences) about another person who influenced you, using at least three of today’s target phrases.

2. Gratitude Action: Think of someone who influenced you. If possible, send them a short message (email, card, or text) thanking them. You can write in English for practice, or in Japanese.
